Walkerton COVID-19 outbreak declared over
44 cases linked to outbreak
No new cases reported in the past two weeks
Public Health Ontario has declared the COVID-19 outbreak over. The outbreak was declared on January 5, 2022, after four cases were detected at the facility. A total of 44 cases were eventually linked to the outbreak, including seven staff members and 37 residents.
The outbreak was the largest in a long-term care facility in Ontario since the pandemic began. It is the first outbreak to be declared over in the province since the beginning of the Omicron wave.
In a statement, Public Health Ontario said that the outbreak was declared over because there have been no new cases reported in the past two weeks. The health unit is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
Andre Portasio posted a photo of them on a boat in January saying it was their last holiday..
